What is Autism Works LaunchPad?
Adults with autism often struggle to gain employment after high school and/or post-secondary. Autism Works LaunchPad is a comprehensive program that teaches the skills needed to enter the workforce. While we support our participants through real-life work experience and classroom lessons, our Regional Autism Coordinator creates connections with employers to develop jobs.
LaunchPad is a 12-week long program that runs 3 days a week from 9:30am - 11:30am, with scheduled shifts throughout the week. Hands on work experience is provided through our social enterprise, The Pearl, where participants develop and/or build upon skills and expectations of a workplace.
In addition to the classroom component of LaunchPad, each participant receives eight 1-hour long sessions with a program facilitator to develop and work towards achieving employment related goals.
LaunchPad also recognizes the importance of volunteer work, and includes up to four 2-hour long volunteer sessions throughout the program. Volunteering is a great opportunity for participants to gain experience, sample job tasks and make meaningful connections in the community.
Work Experience Through The Pearl
Autism Works LaunchPad participants gain meaningful work experience through Autism Nova Scotia's social enterprise - The Pearl.
The Pearl is a social enterprise that has gained the reputation for high quality, affordable jewellery made by people with autism, their friends and families. Participants learn the importance of customer service while selling jewellery at various pop-up shops throughout the HRM, all while developing and building upon workplace skills such as time management, organization, communication and teamwork.
